Conquering the Air(waves): Private 5G from Land to Sea to Sky

This project explores the deployment of private 5G network cells on drones and airplanes to enhance live broadcast production by providing wireless connectivity for video, audio, and sensor data.

In recent months, we have partnered with colleagues from across the broadcasting space to push the boundaries of what is possible with private 5G for broadcast. Introducing our 2025 IBC Accelerator Project – “Conquering the Air(waves): Private 5G from Land to Sea to Sky”

This project explores the deployment of private 5G network cells on drones and airplanes to enhance live broadcast production by providing wireless connectivity for video, audio, and sensor data. Building on previous demonstrations of private 5G on land and sea, this initiative aims to extend its capabilities to the sky, unlocking new creative possibilities and improving live storytelling. By enabling dynamic, mobile connectivity, broadcasters can bring audiences closer to the action while also enhancing athlete safety and event coverage.
