Pitlochry Highland Games by Standalone 5G over Starlink

Along with our production partners QTV, we were able to broadcast HD footage from the Pitlochry Highland Games live to the innovation stage in Amsterdam for IBC 2022. Our 5G UEs took the encoded SDI streams

Over the month of September, Neutral Wireless have built four networks in four countries — Kenya, Ireland, New Zealand, and of course Scotland — to support live video productions as part of the IBC media accelerator project “5G Remote Production… In the Middle of Nowhere”.

Along with our production partners QTV, we were able to broadcast HD footage from the Pitlochry Highland Games live to the innovation stage in Amsterdam for IBC 2022.

Our 5G UEs took the encoded SDI streams from the four on-site cameras, transferred them over our uplink-biased n77 5G SA private network (with a bonded Starlink backhaul) to our production car, where the IP data was decoded back into four SDI streams to be passed onto QTV for production and broadcast. With an additional data layer on top of the video streams, functionality such as talkback and tally could also be communicated.

Our Lomond Network-In-a-Box solution received praise for its ease of set-up, ease of integration, and low levels of latency. You can watch our engineers talk through a detailed step-by-step of our set-up in the video at the top of this page.
